Discover Hong Kong’s Lantau Island

Visit a picturesque fishing village, an iconic Buddhist monastery and a premier shopping locale on Hong Kong’s Lantau Island.

About Your Trip

Immerse yourself in the beauty and diversity of Hong Kong’s Lantau Island during a full-day tour of its historic cultural landmarks and urban attractions. Visit the Po Lin Monastery to marvel at the monolithic bronze Tian Tan Buddha statue, one of the tallest of its kind in the world. Explore the complex’s other impressive structures to see the many precious Buddhist relics on display, then savor a delicious vegetarian lunch.

Your stop at the fishing community of Tai O is a photographer’s dream come true. Take in the enchanting scene of countless interconnected houses built on stilts above the tidal flats, which earned the village the nickname “Venice of Hong Kong.” Also engulf your senses in the sights — and smells — of the market’s abundant seafood, vegetables and souvenirs. At Citygate Outlets in Tung Chung, enjoy the numerous shopping, dining and entertainment options available at this massive retail complex, which also features one of Asia’s largest outdoor kinetic fountains.

The following day gives you ample leisure time to explore the highlights of Hong Kong at your own pace.

What we love:
• Po Lin Monastery’s enormous Buddha statue is a fantastic sight in and of itself, but visitors can also enjoy sweeping mountain and sea views from its base.
• The rowdy Temple Street Night Market is a great place to discover bargains on souvenirs, clothing, electronics and more. It’s also where you’ll find fortune tellers and impromptu Cantonese opera performances.
• According to Hong Kong tradition, eating noodles on your birthday will grant a blessed and long life!

Destination

Hong Kong is an intense, eclectic city that draws millions of visitors annually thanks to its fascinating blend of modern culture and ancient tradition. This Pearl River Delta metropolis is one of a kind, an autonomous territory known as much for its iconic harbor skyline as its plentiful skyscrapers. Beneath its industrial- and business-focused exterior, this bustling city hides a treasure trove of unique experiences just begging to be discovered. Few cities are better for feasting — the cuisine here is truly global. And thanks to the city’s Chinese roots and British colonial background, there’s also an amazing range of historical, military and contemporary landmarks. There’s no shortage of entertainment and sights to see in Hong Kong — everything from opera to glitzy malls, and from sprawling parks to museums — earning the city the nickname, “Asia’s World City.”
